The only school near the Cotton Mills, Winona, Miss. A private school taught by Miss. McIntosh, who for several years off and on has conducted it, charging each pupil only one dollar a month. With only ten pupils now the job is not very lucrative. She said it was discouraging, but that many seemed to appreciate it. "What we need is compulsory education and a free school out here, which we may get before long." Children range from six to ten years. One of the ten year old boys said, "Only two more years and I'll be in the mill." Little girls added, "Four years more and I'll be there." They all seemed to feel they would get into the mill as soon as possible.

Jesolo - The American Girls....

JESOLO, Italy – The United States women won the junior and senior team titles and swept all six all-around medals at the Jesolo (Italy) Trophy competition today. 2012 Olympic gold medalist Kyla Ross of Aliso Viejo, Calif./Gym-Max, led the senior team to gold while capturing the all-around title. Peyton Ernst of Coppell, Texas/Texas Dreams, and Maggie Nichols of Little Canada, Minn./Twin City Twisters, finished second and third. Junior national champion Bailie Key of Montgomery, Texas/Texas Dreams, won the junior all-around title. Nia Dennis of Westerville, Ohio/Buckeye Gymnastics, and Norah Flatley of Cumming, Iowa/Chow's Gymnastics and Dance, rounded out the junior podium.

Competition concludes tomorrow with junior and senior event finals at 6 a.m. ET. The Italian Gymnastics Federation will provide a live webcast of the competition on its YouTube channel.

The U.S. scored 231.650 to win the senior title ahead of Italy, 221.500, and Japan, 217.800.

Ross posted a 58.000 in the all-around. She began on the vault, where she received a 1.000 penalty for running past the vault in her first attempt. She scored 14.300 for her double twisting Yurchenko. On the uneven bars, she earned a 14.900. In rotation three, she moved to the balance beam and stuck her double back dismount for a 14.450. Ross closed out her competition on the floor, tumbling an Arabian double front to stag leap to open her routine. She posted a 14.350. Ersnt scored 57.650 for silver and Nichols took the bronze, scoring 57.450.

In the junior competition, Team USA posted a 228.000 for gold. Romania was second with 212.900, and Italy was third (211.400).

Key, Dennis and Flatley, took the gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the junior women's all-around competition. Key earned a 58.250 total with scores of 15.200, vault; 14.300, uneven bars; 14.100, balance beam; and 14.650, floor exercise. Dennis posted a 56.300 with Flatley earning 56.100.

The U.S. grabbed the top six placements in the all-around with MyKayla Skinner, Gilbert, Ariz./Desert Lights Gymnastics, 57.200; Rachel Gowey, Urbandale, Iowa/Chow's Gymnastics and Dance Institute, 56.750; and Alyssa Baumann, Plano, Texas/WOGA, 55.700, finishing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Madison Desch, Lenexa, Kan./Great American Gymnastics Express, 55.650, was eighth in the all-around.

All six U.S. juniors finished in the top 10 in the all-around as Emily Gaskins of Coral Springs, Fla./Cincinnati Gymnastics, fifth; Jordan Chiles of Vancouver, Wash./Naydenov Gymnastics, sixth; and Ragan Smith of Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams, ninth, also competed in the junior event.
