Franciscus (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio; December 17, 1936) is pope of the Catholic Church, elected on March 13, 2013, and taking the regnal name of Francis, after St. Francis of Assisi.
Prior to his election, he served as an Argentine cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He has served as the Archbishop of Buenos Aires since 1998. He was elevated to the cardinalate in 2001.
I watched live today as he was sworn in. It was said that he only has one lung. He lost the other as a young child due to an infection. I'm happy for everyone! I hope he does make a difference for the church.
