Duluth, Ga., April 20, 2012 – The prelims concluded tonight at the 2012 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., with six teams advancing to the Super Six team finals and Florida's Kytra Hunter winning the all-around title.
For the team competition, the top three teams from each session advanced to the Super Six. In the first session of the day, University of California – Los Angeles had the top score posting a 197.400. The University of Utah was close behind with a 197.200. Stanford rounded out the top three with a score of 197.125. UCLA had the highest team score on floor and bars with 49.350 and 49.450, respectively. Stanford had the highest beam score with a 49.375 and Utah had the highest vault total with a 49.525.
The top three teams from each session: UCLA, University of Utah, Stanford, University of Alabama, University of Florida and University of Arkansas qualified for the Super Six, the team finals scheduled for April 21 at 4 p.m. Today's sessions also determined the gymnasts who will advance to the individual event finals on April 22.
In the all-around competition, Florida's Kytra Hunter turned in an incredible all-around of 39.725 complete with a 9.975 on her Yurchenko 1.5 vault, a 9.900 on bars and beam and a 9.950 on floor for her routine which included a double layout. Georgia's Kat Ding scored a 39.650 and Arkansas' Jaime Pisani scored 39.625.
The top four gymnasts in each session, plus ties, in the individual event rankings advance to the finals, which take place Sunday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
The Super Six Finals will take place tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, at 4:00 p.m.
In 2011, Alabama won its fifth team title with a score of 197.650. UCLA was second and the University of Oklahoma was third.
