Procter & Gamble "Thank you, Mom" Gift Announcement
05/08/2012
"We asked the U.S. Olympic Committee how P&G could support and thank the moms of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes. They told us, 'help them get to London to see their child compete,'" said Jodi Allen, P&G Vice President, North America Operations and Marketing, and herself a mother of four. "After years of sacrificing to help their children achieve their dreams, many of these moms struggle to find the financial means to see this dream realized. This is why P&G created the "Thank you, Mom" gift, which will make it easier for the mom behind every U.S. Olympian and Paralympian on the 2012 Team to share their child's dream."
The action is part of P&G's "Thank you, Mom" campaign, which focuses on the role moms play in raising Olympians and how those moms are supported by P&G and its iconic brands, including Tide®, Pampers® and Bounty®. The announcement follows the recent launch of the "Best Job" film (https://www.facebook.com/thankyoumom?v=app_139624989486054), which serves as the inspiration behind the entire campaign. There have been more than five million views of the film globally, helping to raise awareness of P&G's goal to thank every mom in the world through its Olympic and Paralympic Games program.
"We believe that behind every athlete is an even more amazing mom – who has been supporting her child every step of the way," said Melanie Healey, P&G Group President, North America, and herself a mother of two. "Because P&G is in the business of helping moms and families, we are proud to support moms of Olympians and Paralympians during the Games by enabling them to see their children compete on the world's stage."
"The gift from P&G is a wonderful surprise," said Joy Robles, mom of U.S. Weightlifting Team member and London 2012 qualifier Sarah Robles. "I have watched Sarah work toward this moment since she was a child, and thanks to the generosity of P&G I'll be able to be in London to share her Olympic dream."
To keep U.S. moms connected with their athletes and families in London, P&G will also create the P&G Family Home, a private and secure "home away from home" where moms of Olympians can spend time with their athletes in a relaxed, family-friendly environment. P&G will offer services from its wide range portfolio of industry-leading brands, including Pampers®, Tide®, Pantene®, Crest®, Duracell® and Gillette®.
"Through its commitment to moms everywhere, P&G truly embodies the spirit of the Olympic Movement," said USOC CEO Scott Blackmun. "This is a company that understands the importance of a mom wanting to be there for her child during one of the biggest moments of his or her life. This gift will make it easier for hundreds of moms and their families to experience the Olympic and Paralympic Games firsthand. For many, this would not have been possible without the help of P&G."
Allen said the "Thank you, Mom" campaign not only supports moms of U.S. Olympians and Paralympians, but also "moms everywhere who do whatever it takes to help make her child's life the best it can be." P&G created a "Thank you, Mom" digital app to help people share a personalized "thank you" message to their moms, or other mothers who have positively impacted their lives. to participate and see tributes to moms across the U.S., including P&G athletes and their moms. "We will not stop until all moms are thanked," said Allen. "And we want everyone to join us."
