2013 European Gymnastics Championships preview: Women's all-around contenders - Giulia Steingruber and Ilaria Käslin

Ariella Kaeslin's heir apparent has come into her own during the past two years, representing Switzerland proudly at the Olympic Games and following up with impressive performances on the World Cup circuit, including the vault and bars title at the recent French International. Steingruber has the experience, start values and clean execution on all events. She could be very dangerous here.

The eyes have it. And Aliya Mustafina, like the great Russians who have come before her, wants more. Although she does not always display textbook form (though sometimes she does, especially on bars), Mustafina has a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that commands attention as she performs, practices, walks around the gym, you get the idea. In practice she often looks tired, and in competition like nothing can stop her. Fifteen months after tearing her right ACL at the 2011 European Championships in Berlin, Mustafina became the most decorated Russian athlete of the 2012 Olympic Games. Her medal haul: one gold, one silvers, two bronze. What she doesn't have? A European all-around title. And that, folks, is why she's in Moscow.
